NHN beheading |
Q: On 500th death day cake: beheaded 31 oct 1492; therefore: HPs second year was 1992; And because HP was 13 years old he was born in 1979; Given birth date was July 31st. |

SB ~22 Y/O when taken to Askaban |
Q: JKR said SB was "about 22" when he was taken to Askaban. Assuming LV killed potters immediately after discovering "secret", and that SB killed pettigrew immediately and SB captured and sent to Askaban immediately then: A: SB, LP, JP, SS, PP all about 22 y/o on 10/31/1981 [previously calculated as date HPs parents killed.] Therefore: All BORN ~ 1959; All ENTERED Hogwarts (age 11) ~ 9/1/1970; All GRADUATED (age 18) 6/30/1978; AND LP and JP married shortly after graduating from hogwarts having first child. |

AD's "precognition" and spying on Harry |
Q: AD seems to frequently know and prepare for things before they happen. He gave HP the invisibility cloak then returned it to him after he left it out - before he needed it in sorcerer's stone. Advised about "Loyalty and asking for help" before HP needed to draw Fawkes to him w/ hat in chamber. And several other times. We know Dumbledore is an accomplished Legillimans' but this seems to go even beyond that! He's told Harry that "he's been watching him" even "closer than he knows." We know of time-turners and we know that Dumbledore can be invisible without a cloak. There's got to be more to this than we have been told! A: I wonder if it's too late, now, to find out about this now that Dumbledore is dead (possibly). |

Dumbledore pursuing the next great adventure. |
Q: Dumbledore told Harry, in the Philosophers Stone, that "to the well-ordered mind, death is but the next great adventure."
It was also Dumbledore who, as they stepped off the Dursley's front porch into the cool night air, revealed to Harry (and to all of us) that in Book 6 (The Half Blood Prince) they would be "pursuing Adventure" that "flighty temptress." |

LM and Dark Items |
Q: After all the events surrounding LVs "death" LM was the one who ended up w/ his diary! He also has a secret chamber under his drawing room which raids by the aurors couldn't find AND sounds like it's modeled after the chamber of secrets constructed by SS and entered by Tom Riddle/Lord Voldermort. It also contains "other dark arts" stuff according to Draco. It is not inconceivable that the chamber was modeled or even built by LV and possibly used as a "hide out" during his first reign of terror. A: Ooooh, another really good (unanswered) question. |

Dursleys only briefly in books 6 - 7 |
Q: JKR said that we will see the Dursley's only briefly in books six and seven. A: So that must mean that they probably won't be subjects of muggle baiting, healing relationships, protection by HP etc. |

Error in coming out of LVs wand |
Q: Who should have come out first during the Priori Incantatum conflict between HPs and LVs wands? A: JKR said that: "a proofreading error was made in Goblet of Fire. James Potter was killed first and Lilly second. So she should have come out first (ie reverse order) during the duel. |

Marcus Flint did an "extra" year at Hogwarts |
Q: What happened to Marcus Flint - listed in the same form two years in a row? A: JKR said: "Well either I made an error or he repeated a year for some reason - I prefer it being HIS mistake." |

Molly Weasley's family |
Q: What is Molly Weasleys family background A: Her maiden name was Prewett. In an early writing of chapter one she lost family members to LV - Gideon and Fabian Prewett. There is nothing holding back this part of the story line from being revealed in book seven - will it? |

Origin of Avada Kedavra |
Q: What is the origin of the killing curse Avarda Kedavra? A: JKR said that she took it from an aramaic curse- Abraccadabra means: "let the thing be destroyed" as in an illness. JKR used a form of it for destroying people as well. |

Q: What was the background on Theodore Nott? A: JKR said that he was "raised by a father who was very elderly and a death eater. He is clever and is Draco's equal. He was in a scene where he and Draco visited while their fathers talked which was taken out of the early book." |

What if Ginney had died and TR came from book |
Q: What would have happened if GW would have died and Tom Riddle had come out of the diary.? JKR said that she couldn't discuss it "as it touches on aspects of book 6 and 7" but it "would have strengthened the present day Valdemort considerably." A: We now know that the Diary was a Horcrux containing part of Voldemort's shattered soul. It still being in existence would have prevented the "real" Voldemort from actually being destroyed and it would have presented a Horcrux with probably much more defense capabilities than a mere book. -- Is there still more to it? |

Can ADs chocolate frog cards communicate with him? |
Q: When RW opened the Chocolate frog card in the train the first year - AD left shortly thereafter. Paintings can visit others of their paintings, could it be similar for other wizard type photos? Is that why AD said "just as long as they don't take him off the chocolate frog cards?" A: I think this is (still) a very good question, as yet unanswered. |

Dean Thomas' Father |
Q: What's the background on Dean Thomas A: He was raised by his stepfather after his father (a wizard) left them in order to protect his family. His real father was killed by death eaters when he refused to join them. This story line was edited out of the British book version. Nevilles voyage of discovery is much more important to the central plot. |

Does Grawp become anything |
Q: Does Hagrids brother Grawp become useful? A: JKR said that it "Just may be that this is the first time RH's finds come good." We know that he's improving at social skills and has bonded with Hagrid but outside of saving Harry and Hermione from the Centaur's we don't know much more. He lives in a cave that Dumbledore himself prepared. Theoretically there could be more to the cave than one things - It could be used in a story for hiding or seclusion, after all it's guarded by a giant. |

Dumbledores precognition |
Q: Dumbledore sent Harry his father's invisibility cloak with the admonishment "use it well." Then when Harry left it behind - Dumbledore returned it to him with the note "just in case." Instead of just taking the Mirror or Erised directly to its final room he left it in the castle where Harry would stumble across it. He was apparently watching Harry during his first and second visits to the Mirror without revealing himself then taught him about the mirror so that "if you do ever run across it again you'll be prepared." Then, when, without receiving Hermione's message he "knew" he needed to be back at Hogwarts- he asked Hermione directly "Harry's gone after him, hasn't he?"- apparently already knowing who and what was happening. How does Dumbledore know what is and will happen? Does he have a time viewer- or time turner- and does he routinely use it in advance to know what is going to happen? |

Harry could have found Draco in the room of requirement |

Harry's genealogy - "Half" blood |
Q: Tom Riddle told harry that they both had things in common - they were both "Half Bloods" - by his definition of "Half." Both their mothers were witches; however, HPs was muggle born and TRs "pure blood" descendant of Salazar Slytherin. Their fathers were just as different. While HPs was a full wizard, TRs was a full Muggle! Tom described himself as a "half blood." From a magical standpoint Harry was not "half" at all. Aparantly from Voldemort's standpoint everything that isn't "pure" or "muggle-born" is considered "Half." A: JKR has stated that, as did the Nazi's, even grandparentage is considered in claiming to be "Pure." |

Love leaves its mark |
Q: "If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. He didn't realize that love as powerful as your mother's for you leaves its own mark. Not a scar, no visible sign… to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. It is in your very skin. Quirrell, full of hatred, greed and ambition, sharing his soul with Voldemort, could not touch you for this reason. It was agony to touch a person marked by something so good." LV "taking" the school |
Q: When telling HP about LV in book one, Hagrid said that LV had not dared to take the school, but added "NOT THEN ANYWAY." Wonder if this a foreshadowing of things to come? A: Yep, it was! Draco Malfoy was the Judas who finally let the Death Eaters enter the castle past all of Dumbledore's heightened security. |

Q: How did HP get the marauders map back after loosing it in goblet of fire? A: "Sorry, I made the assumpton that people would figure it was too valuable of an asset for HP to let it sit alone in an unattended DADA office. He went in the unattended office and took it back." |

Mis-stated Day of Week? Wizard's believe in Sunday? |
Q: Valentine's day celebration, given as "Feb 14th," has students being delivered valetines "all day in Classes." However using the Nearly Headless Nick 500th death day calculation for the year (1993) this puts the day as Sunday! It is doubtful students would really be in class on the sabbath - unless wizardom does not observe the sabbath on the same day. The school week is not mentioned in the books but Quidditch matches seem to be usually on Saturday as do Hogsmead's visits. A: Now that many people have figured out what they think is the correct timeline (even "official" movie DVDs have given them) one would think that JKR would actually USE A CALENDAR in writing her books. It is clear that some effort is made for continuity; but, with glaring lapses. The school year seems to ALWAYS start on a Monday - no matter what year it is. Perhaps it is: because JKR really had no idea that we expect- nay REQUIRE- an author such as her to have all her "nits" beyond where we can "pick", and now it's just too late to do anything about it OR there is a perfectly, albeit magical, explanation she has refused to tell us OR wizards don't believe in Sunday OR This is just fiction, for crying out loud. |

Sorting Hat have additional use? Why can't be cleaned? |
Q: The sorting hat was very specifically described in the Sorcerers Stone as dirty, etc. Then we found that it held Gryffindor's sword and came to Harry. Had it come out of the hat before Harry brought it forth? Is it used by the headmaster or other wizard to assist in battles? Is it how Dumbledore defeated Grindewald? AND, why can't it be washed or cleaned? A: Still VERY GOOD questions - which haven't been answered. |

Story line in Half Blood Prince (book 6) |
Q: JKR said that the story line in HBP relates to a discovery that HP made in "Chamber of Secrets" which foreshadows something that he finds out in book 6 - the "Half Blood Prince." A: Well, we now know that it was the fact that "Tom Riddle had kept a diary" of which JKR was speaking that expanded into his learning it was really a Horcrux. JKR said that if Ginny had not been saved and Tom Riddle had been able to come back it "would have strengthend the present day Voldemort considerably." See notes 24 and 1 |

Voldemort with Harry's blood and Wormtails hand |
Q: Voldemort used Harry's blood in the spell to form his new body; which blood became part of the body taking away the inability to touch Harry. But, his new body was also formed from Wormtail who owed Harry a life debt. Did that, in some way, become part of Voldemort too? If so, what effect will it have? |

Was Godric Gryffindor muggleborn (or half-blood) |
Q: HP discovered that he was a "true Gryffindor" in book 2. Harry's wondering about whether he should have been placed in Slytherin was a strong theme w/ JKR. HP has "his mothers eyes" repeatedly pointed out. His family lived in "Godric's hollow" - possibly related to Godric Gryffindor (?through his mothers muggle line?). Both the sorting hat and the Sword of Gryffindor are very significant relics - possibly akin to Slytherin's chamber of secrets. Slytherin left Hogwarts after an argument "of significance" with GG. Could it be over Muggle born abilities? Could it be that GG championed the cause because it was HIS cause, muggle born? A: REALLY good, unanswered, question. |

What happened to the Potters house |

Where is SBs flying motorcycle |
Q: Did RH keep Sirius's flying motorcycle? If not where is it? A: No answer to this yet. This question (which has been here since book 1) has only has one more book to come up - perhaps Harry will "inventory" his/Sirius' possessions and find it so he can use it to get around in lieu of apparition (which he doesn't like?) |

Why did LV give Lilly the chance to save herself? |
Q: We know why LV came after Harry now. And we know why the curse backfired. And we know that the "love protection" given to Harry had to do with the fact that Lilly had been given the choice to save herself and chose death. Now, the question arises: "Why did Voldemort even give her a choice?" He'd killed enough people, including women and chldren, "to make an army of Infiri." A: Gee's, I hope JKR chooses to answer this one in book 7! |

Why did LV wait to kill the potters? |
Q: RH said that the mystery is why LV never tried to get L & JP on his side before the halloween night that he killed them. A: He didn't think they were of any importance until he heard about the prophecy that was possibly about HP. |

Why didn't AD kill (or try) LV at ministry |
Q: JKR said the 2nd most important question never asked: "Why didin't AD try and kill LV in his fight in rotunda of ministry?" He said that he must admit that "killing wouldn't give him pleasure." A: AD told LV a minimally believable excuse but not the real reason. JKR said "AD knows something slightly more profound than that." We probably still don't know the whole reason. The prophecy said that the only one who had the chance of destroying LV would have been marked by LV and that was Harry. In addition Dumbledore suspected that he couldn't have been really "Destroyed" yet because he had been hiding Horcrux's all over the place which hadn't been dealt with. So even when LV possessed Harry and taunted Dumbledore to kill him, it was a hollow taunt because LV knew that really the only one who would have died would have been Harry. |

Why HP did not see thestrals |
Q: Why was HP not able to see Thestrals the first several years? After all, he saw his parents, quirrell and Cedric die. A: Harry didn't see his parents die (except in his surreptitious Legillimanical trips into Voldemort's mind. Harry was on a cot at 1 y/o (JKR wrote the scene but cut it). But, also, you see thestrals when you understand death in the broader sense. Harry also didn't see Quirrel die because he was unconscious. He did see Cedric die, but was still in shock (JKR didn't want to start a mystery at the end of the book). |

Why LV not killed by backfire curse |
Q: JKR said that the first most important question never asked is: "Why wasn't LV killed by the Avarda Cadavra curse that backfired on him," especially now that we know about the prophesy. [It was given that it was on halloween night. The year calculated from HPs age at NHNs 500th death day party (beheaded 10/31/1492)] A: Well, I guess we now know! He survived because of the self sacrifice of his mother who, after her husband was killed, was given the choice to step aside and survive herself. She, of course, did not and her death evoked some "deep magic" that Voldemort either "knows not" or discounts to the inconsequential. [See notes 16 and 24] |

Why Severous Snape is Lucious Malfoys "lap dog." |
Q: SB called SS LMs "lap dog." What does/did he do to earn that title and why would LM be glad that SSs working at the ministry? A: Well, we know that Snape has a continued connection with Voldemort and through him the Death Eaters. He, for some reason, allowed himself to be goaded into making an Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa Malfoy. BUT Snape's actual "ongoing" connection with the Malfoy's has not adequately been answered. |
5:520 |
|
Why Snape didn't go after Trelawny's prophecy |
Q: Snape claims to be "Voldemort's Spy." He knew that it was Sybill Trelawney who had given the prophecy that he had heard only partially. Over many years with her at Hogwarts why hadn't he gotten her alone and used his legillimancy or other spells to obtain the remainder? It's also not really clear whether or not Lord Voldemort had been told who had made it or surely he would have made more of a fuss about it or obsessed about it like he did the department of mysteries which Harry, then, would have seen in vision. |
